Tim Horton Camp Whiteshell and Sunspace of Lac du Bonnet

On the shores of Sylvia Lake, across the river from Pinawa and just within the boundaries of Whiteshell Provincial park you’ll find a place that serves our youth, and gives extraordinary life-changing experiences. Tim Horton Camp Whiteshell in Pinawa, Manitoba, Canada opened in June 2015, and is one of the Foundations newest camps. Designed to open the doors of possibility and change to young people from economically disadvantaged homes, the camp offers youth challenging courses, canoeing, nature trails, creative arts and more. Needless to say, Eldon & Marie Hiebert of Sunspace of Lac du Bonnet were honoured to be a part of this special project.

The Tim Horton Camp railing project was brought Eldon & Marie Heibert of Sunspace of Lac du Bonnet by a General Contractor they had worked with previously on a picket style railing project. It was complete chance that the Heiberts sent the contractor new brochures for Spring, which included the Sunrail 300 with glass. Exactly what the contractor envisioned for the camp with 5 mm safety tempered glass with polished edges, customized with a blend of Sunspace railing and wood posts with wood handrails. “This is exactly what they had been looking for and being the ‘hire’ local policy with Tim Hortons they contacted us immediately” Marie recounted.

No build is without challenges, Marie explained, “Now this is where designers and architects got involved. They wanted to keep some of the wood look for the application so our railing system was given a wooden handrail to tie it in with the Tim Hortons Camp design. After making measurements and checking them not once, not twice, not three times but four times. The order was sent and we waited. The contractor was getting a little anxious and so were we, however eventually we heard the order was scheduled to be shipped. Then the fateful call came in. Our truck load of glass was in an accident turning our ‘on time install’ to a little bit more of a wait. Needless to say the contractor and the Sunspace Dealer gained a few grey hairs but alas it arrived and was installed to perfection. Thanks to all the hard work of Team Sunspace who put a rush on the new shipment of glass, and our fantastic install team. It was completed in time for the final occupancy inspection”

is the summer home of the camps Youth Leadership Program participants. Throughout the year, this life-changing experience will welcome its campers from local schools and community groups to the gorgeous shoreline. With a natural sand-bottom swimming area, large sports field and access to some of the most serene views that Manitoba has to offer, a perfect backdrop for change.

Eldon & Marie Hiebert of Sunspace of Lac du Bonnet adapted to the vision of the designers and architects, while facing challenges with the highest standard of professionalism. Marie summed up the build by saying “The photographs are all that is needed –the Main building of the Tim Horton Kids Camp Whiteshell is framed by a beautiful Sunspace glass railing.”
